Shop my suitcase: Everything I’m wearing in Paris next week
And all of the ways I am doubting myself thanks to Extreme Packing Anxiety.
Bonjour Geezers!
On Sunday (after the marathon!) I am heading to Paris for a girls trip and then to London for a couple days by myself. Yes, I already voted!
In the coming weeks, paid subscribers will get a few different installments of my recommendations from this trip: Where I stayed, what I saw, where and what I ate.
Have I been to Paris before? Once. Last October, I wrapped up my Eat Pray Love Eurotrip in the City of Lights, and honestly… it was kind of a mistake. By the time I got there, I’d been solo-traveling through multiple countries for weeks. It was magical, sure, but exhausting and tense—I’d never traveled internationally alone, so I was constantly on alert. After a week of schnitzel in Austria, I was homesick and cranky, and Paris just didn’t hit the way it would’ve if it’d been my first stop. When I arrived at my Airbnb and saw it had only a bathtub, I burst into tears. Washing my hair was an adventure. And at that point, I didn’t want adventure; I wanted a hamburger, a hot shower, and I wanted to watch Southern Charm.
I told myself it was okay if I didn’t do everything in one fell swoop—that my trip would still be a success even if all I did in Paris was see the Eiffel Tower, walk around, eat pastries and cheese, and indulge in some light chain-smoking. So that’s exactly what I did, and I promised myself I’d be back.
So now I am going back! This time, with a friend.
To kick us off, I thought it would be fun to share with you my packing list.
This is just shoes, clothes, and bags, but it is a pretty solid idea of what is going into my suitcase for my 10 days abroad. Skincare, etc, will be in a different list.
Here’s what I am bringing to Paris (I’ll be there 11/3 to 9, and then to London, where the temps will be similar, from 11/9 to 14):
When you click through, you can read a description of each item and see how I ranked each piece with a percentage of likelihood that I’d actually wear it. The black dress gets 100%.
There are two items I know I am actually going to take out of my suitcase because after writing out the packing list and considering each thing I gave them a 0% chance that I’d end up wearing them. I wonder if you can guess what they are before I tell you here.
Bonus: Most of these items are going to be on sale VERY soon, and they are all linked for easy shopping.
When I get back, I’ll tell you what I ended up wearing, what I never touched, and what I wished I had brought instead. (Because I have NEVER once in my life packed correctly.)

PS: Looking for other Substacks? Here’s what I’m loving:
Deez Links is the O.G. Substack newsletter that all of my media friends and I have been reading for years. It's back with a vengeance, and you should read it so we can talk about it together. Subscribe here!
I can’t get enough of Anne Helen Petersen’s Culture Study Pod, where she and the smartest people she knows (including, ahem, me!) answer listeners’ questions about the nooks and crannies of contemporary culture, from “why are clothes like this now” to “what’s the deal with F1?”
I’ve known Taylor Lorenz forEVER, and she just launched her Substack User Mag. If you’re Chronically Online like I am, you’re going to love it. Her post about Halloween going full brain rot had me LOLing. (Miss you, Hallowmeme!)
I almost wrote Ciao! That’s Italian! Au revoir!
